[phas-faculty_staff_others] Fwd: March Meeting Minutes, April Meeting Agenda and 2024 Senate Award Recipients

I attach three docs, including the minutes from the past senate meeting that I missed.

1- Congratulations to Will Newton for the Teaching Innovation award.

2- There were very extensive discussions with the president on the issue of faculty vs administrator salaries. Other relevant issues were discussed with the president. Please read carefully.

3- I am not sure if you are aware of. But Bao-An Li and I (and a faculty at College Station) had our travel authorization denied by the system to participate in a meeting in Beijing this month. The most disturbing fact is that  researchers from Berkeley, Purdue, Michigan State and Brookhaven, among others, had no problem with the authorization from their universities for the same conference. So far, we got zero useful information on the reasons for the decision from either the university or the Tamu system. That is another good explanation for their salary increase of 30 per cent.

* From the web:  University is derived from the Latin phrase universitas magistrorum et scholarium, which roughly means "community of teachers and scholars”. It became a community of politically and power motivated and salary ambitious whatever.
