Good morning:

As I mentioned at our Fall CoSEA meeting, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is putting together a major grant writing opportunity for the Spring 2014 semester. Some background notes are attached and also discussed in the note below. We will honor the request for a one-course reassignment for any of our successful applicants.

Deadline for submission to my office is Wednesday, 9/25. Please note that, if interested, you need to develop this proposal in conjunction with your department head.

Good luck and feel free to call or drop by if you would like to discuss this opportunity.

-Grady

Good Afternoon Deans,

Attached is a “Request for Proposals” that provides information about the Proposal Development Workshop and a “Proposal Form” that interested faculty will need to complete in order to express their interest in participating. To be a successful and enriching experience for participating faculty, we can only accept 10 participants. Department heads and college deans are encouraged to fund a one-course reassigned time for each faculty member attending the course as it is a semester long and involves intensive work. In the interest of identifying participants before class schedules for the spring semester are due, I propose the following process and deadline.

The interested faculty will need to complete the proposal form and send to their department heads via email and copy their deans. Upon review, department heads make recommendations to their respective deans for participants. The deans will then review and select the proposed projects that, in the dean’s estimation, will have the best chance of being funded. Those projects will then be submitted to the Vice Provost for Research via email. The Vice Provost for Research will then review the submitted forms and will select the final 10 projects that she believes will have the best funding possibilities. In order for the spring schedules to reflect the course reassignments for selected projects/faculty, the instructor will need the selected Forms for review no later than Wednesday, September 25th. We should have a final decision by October 15th.

I look forward to receiving many worthy projects!
