Dear Colleagues,

The Faculty Senate hereby issues the call for nominations for the Faculty Senate's annual faculty awards (except Mayo Award this year). A list of all Faculty Awards along with descriptions of each can be found at the following link:
https://inside.tamuc.edu/aboutus/policiesproceduresstandardsstatements/rulesprocedures/12faculty/general/12.99.99.R0.03.pdf
The nomination process for awards is as follows: Senators from each department will submit to the Faculty Awards Committee a ballot listing one and only one nominee for each award. A copy of the ballot is attached to this e-mail for the purpose of illustration. Faculty can self-nominate by notifying their department's Senator. Faculty can also nominate a colleague in their department by notifying their department's Senator. If a Senator receives nominations for more than one individual for a particular award from the faculty in his or her department, the department should reach consensus on which faculty member's nomination will go forward. The Senate encourages all faculty within a department to talk with each other to determine who should be nominated for a particular award. Nominations should include the full names of the nominees, the nominees' academic department, and their full email addresses. Please use the attached spreadsheet to submit the ballot to Faculty.Awards at tamuc.edu. The nomination deadline is November 17, 2023.

The selection process for the awards is as follows:

  1. The chair of the Faculty Awards Committee (Dr. Hongmei Jia) will contact those who have been nominated for an award. Contact will be made by a deadline of December 4, 2023. If some faculty members were nominated for an award and have not been contacted by the Committee chair by this deadline, please ask them to contact the Committee chair to ensure that the nomination was received.
  2. The Committee chair will ask each nominee to provide supporting documentation for the committee's review.
  3. The supporting documentation should be submitted via e-mail to Faculty.Awards at tamuc.edu by the deadline of January 16, 2024. The Faculty Awards Committee members will review each application packet and after careful deliberation, the Committee will make one recommendation per award (except the Barrus award, which can have up to three awards) to the full Faculty Senate for approval at the March Senate meeting (first Tuesday of the month, March 5, 2024). The award recipients will be announced at the Faculty Awards Ceremony, which be held in the spring.

Please solicit input from all faculty in your department who can self-nominate or nominate someone else. If two or more faculty in one department are nominated for the same award, then all faculty in the department should vote on who gets the nomination. Thank you very much for your assistance in nominating and recognizing your talented and hard-working peers! The Faculty Awards Committee Chair, Dr. Hongmei Jia, will answer any questions you may have about the awards. Dr. Jia can be contacted by e-mail: Hongmei.Jia at tamuc.edu, or phone: (865) 405-0084.

Regards,
Yasemin Atinc, PhD
President of the Faculty Senate
