Good afternoon, Academic Affairs!

I hope everyone's semester is going smoothly thus far. I have a few important updates to share with you all:

  * I am excited to announce that the three searches for the Deans of the Honors College, CHSSA, and CASNR are now live. Applications are due by December 1, 2023. Thank you to the search chairs and committees for all you have done up to this point! We appreciate your commitment and are grateful for your willingness to serve, as there is definitely more work to come. For anyone interested in learning more about the job profiles, search committees, and overall timelines, we have a webpage<https://inside.tamuc.edu/aboutus/administrativeOffices/academicAffairs/ongoing-dean-searches1/default.aspx> with more information. As we move forward with the search process, we'll be sure to keep you updated, as I would like to see significant campus involvement as we bring candidates to campus.

  * I hope you noticed the announcement earlier this month about the opportunity to provide feedback on the refreshing of our university strategic plan. There will be another open forum on November 2 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Rayburn Student Center. If your schedule allows, please take some time to visit and hear about what we learned from the Spring survey and share your thoughts and ideas on the five main pillars for the strategic plan going forward. We need your input!

  * Just a reminder that Dr. Ron Carter is hosting two additional Zoom workshops on best practices for faculty search committees. (You should plan on attending both, as attendance at Workshop I is required to attend Workshop II). Workshop I is this Friday, November 3rd from 1:00-2:30 and will cover elements of an external search. You can access the Zoom here<https://tamuc.zoom.us/j/96756777060?pwd=b2QwQmpSYmxjSmdPSFJWcFRQMU5Sdz09> (password: RonCarter1). Workshop II will be held November 10th from 1:00-2:30 and is on job analysis data, organizational analysis, and the elusive role of fit. You can access the Zoom here<https://tamuc.zoom.us/j/95376948820?pwd=RlVHYUNiMWNEWG55dUc5elE2MW9uQT09> (password: RonCarter2). If you have any questions please contact Ginny Haight at extension 8787. I encourage you all to attend these important workshops. Ensuring robust search processes and making hiring decisions are truly impactful on the future of our university.

  * After a number of discussions and considerable thought, I am pleased to share with you that the Velma K. Waters Library at TAMUC will serve as the new home for our institution's Adobe Creative Campus. Under the leadership of Dean Lanee Dunlap, I am confident that the Adobe initiative will continue to flourish at our institution, building on the outstanding contributions of our CHSSA colleagues over the past few years. I am grateful to faculty and staff in CHSSA who first accepted the charge to expand digital literacy at our university. They creatively planted the seeds and have nurtured this initiative to the point where we now are assured of this blossoming into a true university-wide resource. A special thank you goes to Dr. Lee Hackett and Dr. Sharon Kowalsky who led the way for students to acquire new skills for communication and creative expression, as well as for their work with assisting faculty in utilizing Adobe in their teaching and scholarship. Please reach out to Dean Dunlap if you are interested in learning more about digital literacy. I suspect we will be hearing more from her and her team as they continue to explore the next steps and goals for the Adobe Creative Campus initiative.

  * In addition, the Velma K. Waters Library also recently created a Current News in Higher Education<https://tamuc.libguides.com/currentnewshighered> web page. If you would like to add an article to the collection, please email the citation to Sarah Northam, Director of Research and Instruction. Thank you to Dean Lanee Dunlap for her leadership on this.

This semester is proving to be a productive one! And I am hopeful you all are able to keep warm with this change in weather. As always, thank you for your continued dedication to our institution. Go Lions!
