Colleagues

Multiple reports have reached the Provost's Office regarding instructors scheduling specific times to do synchronous (i.e. at a designated day/time) testing of their asynchronous online sections.

As a result students have been missing from their regularly scheduled in-person courses to take examinations for other courses.

Sections that include the letter "W" (e.g. 01W, 02W, 03W, etc.) in their section numbers are not permitted to set synchronous meeting or testing requirements. So, in the future, other arrangements will have to be made.

Beginning this semester, the section designation "SW" debuted, allowing faculty to teach online with a designated meeting time for synchronous instruction. If an instructor is willing to commit to a full semester meeting at a designated time, but still teach online, the "SW" section designation is the appropriate one.

Let me know if there are additional questions.
