Topic: "Students with Autism and a Different View of the Academic Experience "

Speaker: Dr. Jane Brown, Yale University and College Autism Spectrum

Time: Oct 5, 2020, 3:00 - 4:00 PM Central Time
This has been a challenging year for all of us. For students on the autism spectrum those challenges may be more intense and may look a bit different. Online learning may not work well, living at home with family and siblings working and going to school remotely can create many barriers. How can we better understand the experience of students on the autism spectrum and assist them and all of us through this unique educational experience.

Topic: "Working with Students with Learning Disabilities: Maximum Gain with Minimum Pain"

Speaker: Rhonda H. Rapp, Ph.D., Association on Higher Education and Disabilities Consultant

Time: October 15, 2020, 1:00 - 2:00 Central Time
It is a well-known fact that students with learning disabilities tend to be the largest population of students with disabilities on college and university campuses. Unlike most other disorders/disabilities, there is an extensive variety of learning disabilities, as well as a wide-ranging, blend of learning strengths and weaknesses unique to each student with learning disabilities. The purpose of this workshop is to provide an overview focused on students with learning disabilities, as well as universal teaching/facilitating-learning practices that will lead to "maximum gain - with minimum pain for faculty."

Topic: "Students with Autism and a Different View of the University Experience"

Speaker: Jane Thierfeld - Brown

Time: October 23, 2020, 2:00 - 3:00 Central Time
Students on the Autism Spectrum are an expanding population on college campuses. Seeing our campuses through a different perspective gives students on the Spectrum a unique view, one we need to understand to be able to work with the students. How does this perspective affect interactions, communication, learning and the college years in general? Please come to this talk with questions for discussion.
