From: Mary Hendrix

Interim Provost and Vice President

                        Academic and Student Affairs

Subject: Foreign Travel Reminder

This is a reminder that advance, written approval from President McFarland
is required for all foreign travel. As indicated on the "
uest.rtf> Request for Foreign Travel" form, all requests must be submitted
to the President's Office at least 45 days prior to the proposed foreign
travel.

Therefore, in order to ensure adequate time for the approval process,
faculty must initiate and submit foreign travel requests early enough so
that time can be allowed for appropriate routing of the request through the
supervisory channels: Department Head; Dean; Provost; President

Foreign travel (excluding Canada and Mexico) paid from state-appropriated
funds must be approved by the Board of Regents Office 30 days prior to
proposed travel dates. Therefore, the President must receive the travel
request 45 days prior to travel.

Foreign travel paid from local funds must be received by President McFarland
45 days prior to travel.

Failure to adhere to the foreign travel policy can result in the traveler's
assuming responsibility for expenses.

Foreign travel by any state employee on state business must benefit the
State of Texas.

The U.S. Department of State may issue travel advisories warning against or
restricting travel by a U.S. citizen to specific nations. Should a person
request approval to travel under a travel advisory, the person must include
a signed statement indicating that the person is aware of the travel
advisory and potential risks associated with the travel to the nation under
the advisory.
