Graduate Council Minutes

December 13, 2005

The Graduate Council met Tuesday, December 13, 2005, in the MSC Boardroom at
2:00 p.m. with Dean Allan D. Headley presiding.  Members present were:  Dr.
Steven Shwiff, Dr. Wendell Edwards, Dr. Sue Espinoza, Mr. Alan Francis, Dr.
Dick Fulkerson, Dr. Ray Green, Dr. John Hanners, Dr. Cynthia Harr, Dr. Ben
Jang, Dr. Chester Robinson, Dr. Janet Walker, and Dr. Mary Beth Sampson.
Members absent were:  Mr. Gagandeep Bhatia, Dr. Hasan Coskun, Dr. Jeff
Kopachena, Dr. Chris Myers, and Dr. Dayle Yeager.  Dr. Jon Travis, Assistant
Dean of Graduate Studies & Research was also in attendance.  

Dean Headley called the meeting to order. 

Action Items

The minutes from the last Graduate Council, November 8, 2005, were approved.

Report from Committee on Administration

Dr. Green presented the committee's report on the request to remove the
Graduate Record Examination from the master's and doctoral admission
requirements for Literature and Languages.  After a discussion, Dr. Green
made the motion to approve the request and have the Graduate Council address
the issue of quality in all graduate programs.  Dr. Chester Robinson
seconded the motion which was unanimously approved by the Council.  Next,
the request will be forwarded to Deans Council for consideration.

Report from Committee on Curriculum

Dr. Robinson presented information about graduate certification programs to
the Council.  Dr. Robinson and his committee will continue to review the
possibility of graduate certification programs at A&M-Commerce.

Information Items

Graduate School Holiday Reception will be December 15.

Next Meeting:          February 14, 2006
