Copies of the latest printing (September 2004) of the
Degree Audit Undergraduate Advisor's Guide are
available from your college dean's office. Copies are
also available in the Computer Science department
office JOUR 124.
As usual, I've itemized the major changes in the guide
since the previous printing (look at the bottom of the
second page). The most significant of these are:
1) Second Bachelor's programs
I've figured out a way of coding second bachelor's programs.
If you would like to have one or more of your programs
available for auditing as a second degree, just send me
the requirements for the program.
2) JLE Exemptions
Students are no longer required to go to the Testing
Office to sign off on a JLE exemption. As of this semester
the Testing Office is checking all new and transfer students
in their first semester to see if they qualify for an exemption.
If they do, they will automatically be coded, and the JLE
message will not print in their audits.
This first semester of checking not only juniors but also
freshmen and sophomores has produced a list of more than
3200 students. Please tell your students that I am working
on this, but it's going to take me a while to get through the
entire list.
Now that students are no longer responsible for determining
whether they qualify for a JLE exemption, I will be reworking
the current JLE message in the audit to eliminate the listing
of exams and minimum scores. Those who do still see a JLE
message will see a much shorter message.
You may also have noticed that the GPA, JLE, and graduation
application messages have been moved from the beginning of
the "Requirements Remaining" section of an audit to the end
so that the listing of courses yet required is shown first in an
audit. I hope this will make it a little easier for students to
find the information they need in their audits while still reminding
them of university requirements.
