[TACRAO] Listserv Course Duplications

Hi Ashley,

Our current students have to request to take transfer courses somewhere else. They submit a transfer course request form and the individual college makes a determination on whether the course will transfer or will be applicable to the degree. Each program has its own requirements as to whether a required course can be taken elsewhere. We don’t import grades so even if it was approved, the course would not have an impact on Latin Honors. Once enrolled at TCU, a student is limited to 4 courses (up to 16 hours) of transfer credit.

For Rice:

…students will not receive transfer credit for courses previously completed at Rice with a passing grade, with the exception of courses designated as repeatable for credit.

Generally, grades earned for transfer credit are not entered on the Rice transcript, and transferred courses have no effect on a student's Rice grade point average. However, where coursework taken at other institutions has been approved by the faculty as an explicitly specified component to a program's curriculum, the courses will be entered on the transcript and counted in the student's Rice grade point average (including grades lower than C-).

So—it depends if they previously passed the course and our transfer courses don’t count (normally) to GPA so it wouldn’t affect honors.

Good Morning,

Another day, another question! 😊 I'm curious how many of your universities/colleges/schools allow transfer credit to duplicate with a native course? Do you duplicate transfer to transfer courses when calculating Latin Honors?

Thank you!
