TACRAO Colleagues,

 

The House Higher Ed Committee has just announced two meetings for next week.


 

.         Formal Meeting: 10:30 AM, Monday, April 19, 2021 to consider
pending business; no testimony

.         Public Meeting: 7:30 AM, Wednesday, April 21, 2021 with
presentations and testimony on the following bills:

 

o   HB 237:                 Relating to student access to certain academic
records; authorizing a fee.

 

o   HB 546:                 Relating to the application of certain
occupation-related postsecondary educational financial aid and student loan
repayment programs.

 

o   HB 3273:               Relating to creating an electronic application
system for state student financial assistance.

 

o   HB 3734:               Relating to the professional nursing programs
that may receive grants under the professional nursing shortage reduction
program.

 

o   HB 3764:               Relating to the authority of a college to adopt a
sexual harassment policy.

 

o   HB 3931:               Relating to the establishment of the Texas
Competency-Based Education Grant Program for certain students enrolled in
competency-based baccalaureate degree programs and to formula funding and
dropped and repeated course restrictions for students enrolled in those
degree programs at public institutions of higher education.

 

o   HB 4387:               Relating to the establishment of the Texas
Transfer Grant pilot program.

 

o   SB 783:                  Relating to the purchase of iron and steel
products made in the United States for certain projects by public
institutions of higher education.

The Senate Higher Ed Committee has also announced a meeting next week - at
the same time as the House public meeting:

 

.         Public Meeting: 8:00 AM, Wednesday, April 21, 2021

 

o   SB 167:                  Relating to a limitation on the amount of
tuition charged by public institutions of higher education.

 

o   SB 1193:               Relating to providing information to
undergraduate students regarding a fixed tuition rate provided by general
academic teaching institutions.

 

o   SB 1227:               Relating to the granting of undergraduate course
credit at public institutions of higher education for certain scores on
examinations administered through the College-Level Examination Program.

 

o   SB 1622:               Relating to measures to support workforce
development in the state, including the establishment of the Tri-Agency
Workforce Initiative and additional employer workforce data reporting.

 

o   SB 1826:               Relating to the establishment of the Texas
Competency-Based Education Grant Program for certain students enrolled in
competency-based baccalaureate degree programs and to formula funding and
dropped and repeated course restrictions for students enrolled in those
degree programs at public institutions of higher education.

 

o   SB 1860:               Relating to creating an electronic application
system for state student financial assistance.
