Subject: [TACRAO] Listserv Wearing Stoles at Commencement

Good Morning,

Apologies if this is a reoccurring question that has been brought up before; however, I have been asked to posted to the listserv to see what other schools do in regards to students wearing stoles at commencement.

1) What is the rule on who can wear stoles or cords at graduation?
A stole of gratitude is part of the official bachelor's degree regalia.
Other stoles, sashes, ribbons, cords, medals, flowers, decorated mortar boards are not allowed at the all-university commencement convocations.

2) How do organizations or groups get to "decide" if they will give them out?
Some departments/schools allow extra adornments to the regalia at their diploma presentation events.

3) If they do, who approves it?
The Provost who is the presiding official at SMU's academic ceremonies.

Thanks in advance and have a great Monday!
