POSITION TITLE:  Texas Regional Admissions Counselor (Based in Houston, TX)

POSITION #: 8768

DEPARTMENT:  Office of Admissions

POSITION SUMMARY: The Texas Regional Admissions Counselor will develop recruitment strategies, plans, and goals for Texas (Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas) based on demographic analyses, market research and other admissions data; monitor admissions activity in critical markets; prepare statistical reports and analysis in support of strategies and goals.

Founded in 1958, the University of New Orleans has a total enrollment of 10,000 and an undergraduate population of nearly 8,000. UNO students are admitted directly to one of our six colleges where they can choose from over 40 majors. We are located on the shores of beautiful Lake Pontchartrain and about 14 minutes for the world-famous French Quarter. UNO is one of the most diverse universities in Louisiana having graduated students from all 64 parishes, 50 states and over 90 different countries. As an NCAA Division I school, UNO supports teams in fourteen sports.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Represent the University of New Orleans to prospective students and their families in Texas (greater Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio)
Attend college fairs/nights and make individual visits to high schools in those aforementioned areas during the fall and spring of each year
Develop and maintain relationships with high school and community college counselors and other school, agency, and community officials in the Houston area

Prepare and deliver presentations about admissions policies and procedures to prospective students, families, school counselors, community-based organizations and alumni volunteers

Evaluate transcripts and review admission applications

Advise prospective and current students on admissions, housing, scholarships, and related topics

Use social media and related resources to create and maintain contact with students, updating to new media as needed

Develop, plan, and coordinate alumni recruitment program initiatives. Maintain relations with Texas area UNO alumni.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:      Bachelor's degree and excellent oral and written communication skills. Willing to do extensive travel and work non-traditional hours. Must possess the ability to relate to individuals of all ages and backgrounds; have strong organizational and interpersonal skills; and be comfortable interacting with students via email and, where helpful, social media. Ideal candidate will be comfortable with basic marketing, advertising and recruiting principles.

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
