Subject: [TACRAO] Listserv General Studies Major with Minor

For those of you who offer a General Studies major would you/do you allow a student to also earn a minor? Logically, we would not allow a Biology major to earn a Biology minor, but there is discussion that General Studies should be treated differently.

Our General Studies major has four concentrations: Applied Sciences, Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. A General Studies major with a concentration in Natural Sciences may have completed all of the courses required for, for example, the Biology minor as part of their General Studies major and concentration. Does it make sense to award that student the General Studies major and the Biology minor even though all courses for the minor were used for the major?

Thanks for any assistance.

Barbara Castro
