I am currently in the process of gathering crime statistical information for
the calendar year 2006. Federal law, specifically the Clery Act, requires
the university to gather statistical information from anyone who has been
defined as a campus security authority. A campus security authority is
defined as someone with "significant responsibility for student and campus
activities". Advisors to student organizations are specifically required to
report statistics. If you are aware of any crime that has occurred at an
official function of your organization that has not been previously reported
to the University Police Department, I am requesting that you fill out an
online statistical reporting form. The form can be found at:
http://www.tamu-commerce.edu/upd/Reports/crimereportingfrm.pdf
<http://www.tamu-commerce.edu/upd/Reports/crimereportingfrm.pdf>
The types of crimes that need to be reported are; Homicide, Arson, Burglary,
Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Motor Vehicle Theft, and Weapons, Drugs and
Liquor violations. For a definition of these crimes, please see the online
form referenced above.
I thank you for your assistance in helping the university comply with this
federal law. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by
phone or email at Jason_Bone at tamu-commerce.edu
