Scheduled Security Updates

What is happening?
Center for IT Excellence (CITE) will be pushing updates to all university owned Windows based desktop, laptop computers and Macs. Please note, computers in Gee Library will not be impacted.

When is it happening?
Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 1:00 am

Services/Applications Impacted:
University owned desktop and laptop Windows-based computers and Macs.

Why is it happening?
To ensure security patches and updates are installed on university owned PCs, Laptops and Macs and are in compliance with information security requirements.

What you need to do:
These updates are extremely important for maintaining your electronic data's security, so please ensure that your machine is powered on and ready for this update.  If you have a University owned laptop, please ensure that you connect to the TAMUC network periodically via the campus Ethernet to receive security updates.  It is highly recommended to always SAVE all documents and log off your computer before updates are pushed to your computer. Please RESTART your PC, DO NOT SHUT DOWN, before you leave for the evening on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. This will leave your machine in a powered on state, which will allow critical system updates to be installed on your computer.

If an update requires a reboot, your computer WILL reboot automatically the next time you connect to the network. This will cause initial slowdown while your computer installs the final updates.
