[Students] Password Requirements

Greetings,

 

PASSWORD REQUIREMENTS for myLEO portal credentials

All A&M-Commerce students must have their myLEO Classic password changed
every 150 days. This mandatory password change will ensure all user
passwords meet current security requirements as well as comply with best
practices for password duration. The new password that you select must be at
least 8 letters, contain three of the following four categories - Uppercase
letters (A-Z), Lowercase letters (a-z), Base 10 digits (0-9), Special
Characters( ! @ # $ % = < > _ ^ & * ( ) +- ; : . ~ ? ) and cannot have been
used for your last 10 passwords. Please note, you must wait 24 hours before
you can change your password again.

 

Your myLEO Classic password can be changed any time by using the Forgot Your
Password <https://leo.tamuc.edu/>  tool. You will need to know your CWID
number in order to establish a new password.

 

CREATING STRONG PASSWORDS

We all have to juggle five, ten, maybe more passwords. Follow our
recommendations for creating a strong, memorable password:

.         Think of a sentence you can remember.
Use this as the basis of your strong password. For example, if you think,
"my dog Samson is five years old today." Use the first letter of each word
to create a nonsensical word. Using the example above, you would get
"mdsifyot".

.         Add complexity by mixing uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers
and characters.
It is valuable to swap out letters for numbers and symbols. For instance, in
the password above, consider substituting the symbol $ for the letter "s"
and the number 5 for the word "five", and the number 0 (zero) for the letter
"o". This might yield a password like "Md$i5y0t".

.         Change your password every 150 days.
Every 150 days equals about two changes per year.

Password Checker, which is a non-recording feature on Microsoft's website
that helps determine your password's strength as you type.
