Phone Phishing Scam Alert!
Texas A&M-Commerce and the Department of Information Technology will NOT
call to inform you that your computer has malfunctioned without properly
identifying themselves or notifying you in advance.
Please note this could be a phishing scam attempt to get you to provide
private information about yourself by pretending to be a legitimate
company or organization to infect your computer.
We have received notification an outside caller called one of our
university staff member to inform her that her computer had
malfunctioned and he would like to take her through some steps to fix
the problem. The caller then asked her to click on the button the bottom
left hand side of the computer and go to My Computer. The caller hung up
on our staff member when she asked to transfer him to the Information
Technology department.
If you have any doubt at all about the validity of any phone calls or
messages, call the Help Desk at 903-468-6000 (off campus) x6000 (on
campus).
