speaker events, concurrent sessions, and associated conversations
concerning the local, everyday, and "ordinary" dimensions of the
humanities.

Highlights include
* SEVEN award-winning scholars from across the nation to offer
featured presentations on a range of topics important to researchers,
teachers, administrators, and the general public-writing and writers in
a participatory democracy
* FOUR Humanities Texas exhibits on various aspects of local
history and art and life, especially relevant to our conversations
surrounding writing democracy
* Multiple, concurrent sessions drawn from a national call for
papers and bringing in individuals from across the nation and
disciplines to likewise engage the conference theme
* Conference proceedings to be published by national journal
(Community Literacy Journal, Fall 2012)
* CLiC's first documentary film, likewise concerning civic
engagement in local contexts and followed by a panel discussion with
local African American leadership and former students who played key
roles in a civic engagement project they helped found in 1973 (Norris
Community Club)
* A program planning workshop, which brings together national team
of scholars and teachers to explore the best next steps in extending
local university-community partnerships across a national network
reminiscent of the one offered in the 1930s through the Federal Writers
Project.
