The outdoor warning system for the City of Commerce and Texas
A&M-Commerce will change the monthly testing day to the first Wednesday
of the month. This change will be in accordance to the National
Weather Service's recommendations for outdoor warning systems.
Previously, the testing day was the first Tuesday of every month. The
first date that the new test occurs will be April 1st. Testing only
occurs if weather permits.

Additionally, annual maintenance will occur on April 1st causing
individual warning sirens to be activated sporadically throughout the
day of April 1st.

As we continue into tornado season, it is important for everyone to be
aware of the following criteria used to activate the outdoor warning
system.

The outdoor warning system will be activated with the
following criteria:

* Destructive winds in excess of 70 MPH.

* A report of a tornado by a weather spotter or other public
safety official.

* Upon recommendation of the National Weather Service.

It is also recommended that all local residences and places of business
have a NOAA weather radio for notification of significant weather events
while indoors.

Students, faculty and staff of Texas A&M-Commerce should sign up for the
Pride Alert Warning System and local Commerce resident should sign up
for IRIS.
