[Students] Hurricane Ike eblast for 9-11 and 9-12

[Joan Lawrence]

Hurricane Ike has scattered thousands of families throughout Texas in
search of shelter, food and safety. A&M-Commerce is prepared to receive
136 hurricane evacuees, and provide them
with shelter, food and support at both Berry Hall at A&M-Commerce, and
Commerce Middle School.

As a reminder, in an effort to promote safety for both the
hurricane evacuee families, as well as Commerce students, staff and area
residents, the following safety precautions are advised:

Please direct all hurricane evacuees to Commerce Middle School. All
evacuees must register there with the Red Cross in order to receive
benefits. It is not recommended under any circumstances that you invite
evacuees and their families into your home. Trained Red Cross staff
will be
on hand at the middle school to provide the necessary support and
supplies.

Those wishing to provide help and support to hurricane evacuee families
may
contact the local Red Cross chapter at 903-455-7932.

Faculty, staff and students are advised to monitor the weather closely,
as the storm is expected to reach Northeast Texas this weekend.
