[phas-undergrad] FW: Get excited: APS CU*iP 2026 is coming

This is a great opportunity for any of y’all who might be interested in attending a physics conference that celebrates the wide spectrum of people studying physics in today’s world! Several of our students have attended in the past, and every one of them has raved about the experience.

See the details, including application procedure, in the email below. If you apply and are accepted into the program, the department will find money to pay your travel costs. The program itself pays for meals and lodging. You would only need to pay the $45 registration fee (only due if you are accepted).

Acceptance into the program is primarily based on supply and demand. Applications are due Dec 4, but the earlier you apply, the less likely you are to forget about it!

Cheers,
Dr. Williams

Location and dates
New for 2026, APS CU*iP will be held at a singular site unifying all attendees in Denver, Colorado on March 14 - 15, 2026.

Note: CU*iP precedes the APS Global Physics Summit in Denver. Students interested in benefiting from both events must register for the Summit separately.

Eligibility and application process
Applications are open November 10 - December 4

  * You must be an undergraduate student attending a US institution and over the age of 18.
  * You will first apply to attend. Once your application is reviewed, you will be accepted or declined.
Program preview
This year’s 2026 Millie Dresselhaus CU*iP keynote speaker is Dr. Jessica Esquivel<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__info.aps.org_e_640833_2025-2D11-2D03_2vgmbh_1689604148_h_NWiaK75xhL75OxjdKxuHu-5FsqCt8KBn1ZgXFJUlQ54ZU&d=DwMDaQ&c=oqyuZuih6ykib6aKiBq22_bich4AVfYGoLertJN0bEc&r=iChQuC17Qn3vIoviwtt2dC0QKF2XhMAtaZU7ANkXjoI&m=-IrW9-5p5nw-5mLlrAk4A8z-zk2MEsuhfq80JlT0lTpYlliEZ3GUll97CgyPOoh4&s=7tsjyp4-hgV3tNXnLfhqN9rCZtitqxrV7OcxHJXm9tU&e=>, an experienced particle physicist who has authored over 35 scholarly articles. Dr. Esquivel is a vocal advocate for gender and racial equity in physics.

The conference will include interactive panels about graduate school and careers, sessions and discussions about women and gender minorities in physics, research presentations from diverse fields, student poster sessions, and networking opportunities.

How students benefit
Attendees will connect with mentors and peers, explore career and education pathways, and make meaningful friendships in a welcoming setting. CU*iP is for those who seek to amplify their voice and become an active part of an inclusive physics community.

Cost, funding, and travel

  * If you are accepted, you will pay a one-time fee of $45 to register. The fee offsets some of the cost of the conference, including all lodging and meals.
  * Lodging and meals will be provided for registered participants.
  * Students are encouraged to request travel funding through their university or academic department.
APS is committed to inclusivity and accessibility. We welcome individuals with disabilities and are dedicated to providing the necessary accommodations to ensure a supportive and accessible experience for everyone.
