Dr. Lan Hong graduated from the medical school of Yanbian University in China in 2006, and received her PhD degree in physiology in 2012. Since then she had been working as an instructor of physiology and pathophysiology at Yanbian University School of Medicine. She joined Biomedical Institute for Regenerative Research (BIRR) at TAMU-Commerce in March 2017 as a postdoctoral associate researcher, and will be appointed as a Research Assistant Professor soon. Dr. Hong's current research focuses on cardiovascular disease using stem cells and human cardiac-induced RNA
Abstract
DNA, also known as deoxyribonucleic acid, is a biological macromolecule that contains genetic instructions to guide the development of biological and life functions. The DNA’s main function is information storage and can be compared to a "blueprint" or "recipe". Instructions that are required to construct other intracellular compounds such as proteins that are required for ribonucleic acid. A DNA fragment encoded by a protein is called a gene. Most DNA molecules consist of two biopolymer strands coiled around each other to form a double helix. I will present the history, structure, function, and applications of DNA.
