Dear colleagues,

For more than 50 years, the Maria Mitchell Observatory (named for the first woman astronomer in the United States) has offered summer research opportunities in astronomy and astrophysics for undergraduate students here on the picturesque island of Nantucket. Many of our students have gone on to distinguished careers at leading universities, observatories and laboratories. In 2010, our program received the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring from President Obama.

Six summer internship positions in astronomy/astrophysics will be available in 2015 through our Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program, which is supported by a generous grant from the National Science Foundation.
