Hi, All:
For those of you who will be undergraduate students in Fall 2016, I’d like to strongly encourage you to apply to REU Summer Intern Programs. These are paid internships where you typically
* work 9-10 weeks during the summer one-on-one with a faculty member doing research
* engage with other students
* learn about the research process from project initiation to giving talks and writing papers and posters
* get paid (typical $5000/summer)
* travel is supported
* etc.
Absolutely a terrific experience, and a great line on your resume / curriculum vitae (and pays better than flipping burgers)!
There are programs in all STEM fields. The programs are competitive, so apply to several to increase your chances of getting selected for one.
Here’s the link that will take you to all the available programs nationwide:

Best regards, good luck, and have fun!
