[NewIntlStudents] When should you register for orientation and check-in?

[New International Students]

We have had a number of new international students to Texas A&M University-Commerce ask if they should register for orientation before they arrive in the U.S. or after.

We ask all new F-1 and J-1 international students to register for the International Student Orientation immediately so that our office can have an accurate number of the new students we will have attend our orientation.  There is no penalty for registering and then deciding to attend another school:

*        We ask all new international students who have not already registered for the International Student Orientation to do so as soon as possible by going to www.tamuc.edu/intlorientation<http://www.tamuc.edu/intlorientation>.

*        We will be posting our orientation schedule and pre-arrival and arrival events and programs on our website within the next few days.

New F-1 and J-1 are encouraged to schedule their check-in appointment immediately for a few reasons.  First of all, the check-in times will fill up very quickly so it is important to schedule your check-in as soon as possible.  Second, the ISSS uses both the check-in appointment list and the orientation registration to provide our academic departments with the expected number of new international students.  These reports help make the transition from check-in to academic advising for new international students much easier.  Please note:

*        Students may only schedule one check-in time.  If you schedule more than one appointment all of your appointments will be cancelled.

*        There will be no same day check-in appointments prior to August 26.  Appointments must be scheduled at least one day in advance.

*        Please be sure to arrive to the ISSS at least 15 minutes prior to your check-in appointment time.
