Many of you have already been issued an F-1 visa to enter the U.S. for
your academic program. We understand that in some countries a person
may not have a first (given), middle, or family name but may only have a
given name or family name. Any differences with your name on your
passport, visa, I-20, or I-94 (issued when you enter U.S.) may
jeopardize your eligibility for a driver's license, Texas state ID card,
or social security card if you find eligible employment.
Minor differences with your name on the above documents usually will not
cause problems when entering the U.S.
Please review your passport, visa, and I-20 to ensure that all the
information is correct and that your GIVEN NAME and SURNAME match
exactly on both documents. Any incorrect information on your passport
may be corrected in your home country or through your countries embassy
in the U.S. Incorrect information on your visa CANNOT be changed once
you enter the U.S.
