[MusicAlumni] Summer 2020 Music Department Update-Alumni

[Nancy Melton]

Good afternoon alumni,

As we reach the mid-point of the summer, I want to update you on a few things for the Music Department. As many of you know, Dr. David Davies, who served as Interim Department Head for the past two years, accepted a position as Director of School of Music at Nazareth College in New York. He starts this week and has already moved up there with his family.

As this is an essential position for the Department, I have volunteered to step into this role as Interim Department Head and am excited about leading our Department forward through this unique time of our lives. Although things will be different for the fall semester, I can assure you that me and the entire faculty are dedicated to giving the students the best musical and educational experiences possible. We have some unique ideas of how to accomplish these goals and will continue to work throughout the summer to organize our plans.

To give you more details and insight, I made a 9:00 video to talk about what we've been doing as a faculty, what we will continue to do and some plans we have for the fall. I hope you will take a short break to watch this video to learn a little more about our process and how we want to stay connected with you.

I heard a quote earlier today, which encapsulates many of our feelings going into the fall. I imagine many of you that are also teachers are feeling this same way. There is a feeling of unknown, but all of us hope that we can provide comfort to support our students, families and friends in every way we can.

"There are huge opportunities in that which we fear." Pat Flynn

Thank you for your time and if you have any questions or comments, please reach out to me. Have a great summer and we look forward to talking with you through the upcoming school year.
