SCHOLARSHIP IN JOURNALISM DIVISION
RE-OPENED FOR 2014-2015 YEAR

The Journalism Division has been granted permission to re-open competition for the Otha Spencer Photojournalism Scholarship Endowment.

Funds are available for Journalism Division majors in good standing with preference to those interested in photojournalism.

It is important, however, that you read this notice carefully and that you follow the criteria for THE SPENCER scholarship. If you fail to submit ALL of the criteria for a scholarship to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, you cannot be considered for an award by the Journalism Division faculty. PLEASE READ AGAIN!

The criteria from the scholarship personnel say the student must be in the upper one-third of his or her class academically and submit two letters of recommendation "from outside the journalism faculty or from professional media personnel." Also, submit a two-page, double-spaced statement of career plans, why you choose this career, and send a list of Journalism Division courses to be taken in the fall of 2014.

Finally, attach a copy of your Degree Works; the criteria say transcript. A copy of your Degree Works is acceptable. I have checked with Ms. Crystal Thomas about this question.

READ THE CRITERIA AND SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP ON THE PAGE OF THE OFFICE OF FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS.

The amount of any scholarship can vary and depends upon available funds at the time of award.

The scholarship will be open until July29, 2014.

Dr. Bridges can help (886-5229) or you may contact the office above and ask for Ms. Thomas.

                                                                                                -Dr. Bridges
