Message from Dr. Bridges:

Now that all of us are thinking of summer and fall classes of 2011,
please let me remind you of some basics in the curricula.

If you are a public relations major, Journalism 425 is offered first
summer term. Permits can be issued to waive the prereqs in that the PR
courses are out of sequence. I suspect J425 will not be offered again
until the fall of 2012. So, you ought to consider this course Summer I.

For PR majors, get J329 in the fall. If you have had some basic courses,
I will consider your enrollment. J335 and J445 are required of all
majors and will be offered in the fall.

For news-editorial majors, take J214 if you have not passed that class.
The next writing class is J316. I will consider students there without
J214. News majors should also enroll in J335 and J445, both
requirements. The likelihood is neither will be offered in the spring of
2012.

If you have not had J115, and want that course, please let me know. I am
going to ask the Dean to consider opening a second section. This course
is required for enrollment in J315. See Ms. Barton or call me. I will
send out an announcement if a second section is approved.

Internship credit for Summer 1 can still be obtained. We have about 10
students enrolled, but you need an approved intern site before we permit
you into the class. Summer is a good time to work professionally at an
internship because of the flexibility of time and the absence of
full-time class schedules during the regular terms. See me if I can
help.

Again, I urge you to consider carefully your courses because I
anticipate changes in the curriculum during the next year, and I
anticipate continued budget constraints which may affect in what order
we offer classes. And, with the cost of higher education (you realize
this), I would try to move along as speedily as your program allows and
your obligations allow.

Ms. Osgood can be reached most afternoons at 903-886-5239. She will be
happy to help you or relay questions to me.
