Dear International Students;
Return to Campus for Fall 2020 Semester II
Hope everyone is staying well and safe. For those currently in the U.S., you must be looking forward to July 4th celebrations. Please keep wearing masks and doing social distancing to protect yourself. This is very important because coronavirus, the deadly pathogen is still out there. If you are outside of the U.S. you should be preparing to return to campus in August. According to CDC guidelines, international visitors are required to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in the U.S.
Classes start on August 24, 2020, meaning you need to have completed the quarantine before the first day of classes. Take time to plan your return, giving adequate time to the quarantine. The university is making plans to accommodate international students with Fall Housing contract during quarantine. If you are overseas now but does not have a Fall Housing contract, the assumption is that you have a place to quarantine upon arrival in the U.S. Dorms will also be disinfected constantly.
Obviously in fall due to social distancing, there will be more online than face-to-face courses. Some of you have expressed anxiety about not having enough face-to-face courses than online in fall. SEVP guidance is that due to university's program alterations to accommodate CDC guidelines, international students will not be penalized if they cannot find enough face-to-face courses to register for. So don't panic. The understanding is that this is an emergency and universities are doing the best to keep students, faculty and staff safe.
Some coaches have asked if the Office of International Programs will provide a letter to international students returning to the U.S., to show airport officials, so they are not disallowed from entering the U.S. OIP has a template of the letter for coaches, faculty, advisors and others to use. Anyone can write the letter for you. In fact, we will advise that someone within your department or your coach, if you are an athlete, should write it.
Please continue to contact the U.S. Embassy closest to you abroad for guidance. Their websites will have tons of useful information too. In addition, we are here for you, so feel free to contact us if you have questions. Stay safe! Go Lions!
Dr. Titilola Adewale, Director
On behalf of the OIP team
