SPRING 2020 COURSE REGISTRATION

As you register for Spring 2020 classes, the Office of International Programs (OIP) wants you to be cognizant of the following immigration guidance. Thank you.

Full course-load during Spring and Fall semesters

In fall and spring semesters, F-1 international students are required to carry full course-load and be in full-time status.

*         Undergraduate students: A minimum of 12 credits in spring and fall semesters to be full-time.

*         Graduate students: A minimum of 9 credits in spring and fall semesters to be full-time.

*         Graduate assistants: A minimum of 6 credits in spring and fall semesters.
Online course with your full course-load in Spring and Fall semesters

F-1 international students can take only one (1) online course with their full course-load, the rest must be face-to-face courses. Why? Department of Homeland Security (DHS) wants you to maintain physical presence on campus.

*         Undergraduate students: A minimum of three (3) face to face courses and one (1) online course.

*         Graduate students: A minimum of two (2) face to face courses and one (1) online course.

*         Graduate assistants: A minimum of one (1) face to face course with one (1) online course.
Spring 2020 is my last semester

If Spring 2020 is your last semester, it is your responsibility to inform OIP by completing the Program Completion Notification Form. Deadline: On or before the end of first week of classes. Below is the link to the form. Thank you.

Note: Do not exceed one (1) online course with your course-load. If you have one (1) class left to graduation, that class must be face to face. It cannot be online.


I-20 Program Extension

Check your I-20. Does your program end date say December 2019 yet you have a few more classes to take to complete your program? VISIT the OIP IMMEDIATELY. Your program end date needs to be extended NOW otherwise your SEVIS record will "Complete" creating problems for you. Your SEVIS record needs to be updated ASAP.


CPT in the last semester

If Spring 2020 is your last semester, DHS still wants you to maintain physical presence on campus. OIP will advise that you do not make your last course a CPT. But if you do, you must show a "Plan" with signatures of your Department Head and advisor on how you hope to maintain physical presence on campus, before OIP approves your employment in SEVIS.  OIP's recommendation: Engage in CPT during summer term.
OPT Workshops

If graduating in Spring 2020 and will like to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT), sign up for one Spring 2020 OPT workshop. Attend first OPT workshop for early OPT application. Don't procrastinate.
