Students,

The ISSS has become aware that a few international student have recently received phone calls from someone stating they were with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Below is our guidance email for information about scams as well as some links to some helpful resources.

Please note that USCIS, ICE, the Social Security Administration, IRS, and other government agencies will not call up an individual and threaten to deport them or arrest them if they fail to pay a fine immediately (over the phone, wire transfer, money order, etc). NEVER NEVER NEVER provide any credit/debit card information, bank account information, or personal information (date of birth, SSN, address, employer) to anyone over the phone.

If you have any questions or concerns please email the ISSS at Intl.Stu at tamuc.edu<mailto:Intl.Stu at tamuc.edu> or call us at 903-886-5097. You may review the email below for more information.

DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL. FOR QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS EMAIL INTL.STU at TAMUC.EDU<mailto:INTL.STU at TAMUC.EDU>.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has some great information on how to avoid scams that target non-citizens at http://www.uscis.gov/avoid-scams and you may also go to http://www.scam-detector.com/travel-scams/airline-ticket-credit-fraud for more information about different types of scams. Please be sure to read this helpful information.

As a general rule NEVER NEVER NEVER provide your personal information (bank information, credit card information, SSN, passport number, etc) to anyone over the phone. If someone calls you and says any of the following please contact the ISSS or University Police Department immediately:

* Says they are from immigration (USCIS, Immigration Customs Enforcement, etc) and they say you will be deported or your visa status is in jeopardy if you do not make a payment to them immediately.

* Asks for your personal information (credit card number, social security number, date of birth, driver's license number, passport number, etc).
* Says they are from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and that you must pay a penalty immediately or you will be arrested or deported.
