The Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) regulations prohibit F-1 international students from working off campus without prior approval from the Office of International Student & Scholar Services. In most cases, students are also required to receive approval from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). For more information about off campus employment go to http://studyinthestates.dhs.gov/maintaining-your-status or visit http://www.tamuc.edu/CampusLife/CampusServices/internationalStudentServices/currentStudents/immigration-regulations.aspx. Students who work off campus without permission are in violation of their visa status and jeopardize their ability to remain in the U.S. For information about "volunteer" work please go to http://www.tamuc.edu/CampusLife/CampusServices/internationalStudentServices/employment1/default.aspx.

Please note that having an social security number or an SSN card that states "For Employment Authorization" does not grant an F-1 student permission to work off campus. In all situations for off campus employment, an F-1 student must have permission from the ISSO and in most cases USCIS.
