Local weather reports today, Tuesday, May 21, indicate the Northeast
Texas area (DFW Metropolitan area, Rockwall, Greenville, Commerce, etc.)
may experience severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The
weather reports indicate our area may experience heavy rain, hail, and
possibly tornadoes. The "tornado season" for our area generally is from
March through August (spring and summer) of each year but severe
weather can occur at any time here in Northeast Texas and it is
important for international students to be aware and prepared.
With the threat of severe weather it is important to listen to your
local radio station or watch your local news for any updates. Many
cities also have severe weather and/or tornado sirens that may be heard
from great distances across an area. These sirens are intended to alert
local residence if a severe storm or tornado is occurring or will occur.
Also, the American Red Cross has a great website with resources in
multiple languages for individuals to review at
http://www.redcross.org/prepare/disaster-safety-library. The websites
provides very helpful information about what to do and how to respond
when there is severe weather in your area. If you should have any
questions or concerns please be sure to contact our office.
