U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requires all F-1
internationals to enroll in a full course of study each fall and spring
semester. International students must have permission from an
international advisor at the ISSO prior to enrolling in or dropping
below a full course of study.
Failure to receive permission prior to enrolling in less than a full
course of study or dropping below a full course of study is a violation
of the F-1 visa status and a student's ability to remain in the U.S. is
in jeopardy.
A full course of study is:
* A minimum of twelve (12) credit hours for undergraduate
students with a minimum of nine (9) hours as face to face or web
enhanced "E" courses
* A minimum of nine (9) credit hours for graduate students with a
minimum of six (6) hours as face to face or web enhanced "E" courses
* Only one (1) online "W" course counts toward the full course of
study requirement
DO NOT DROP BELOW A FULL COURSE OF STUDY DURING THE SEMESTER OR YOU WILL
BE IN VIOLATION OF YOUR VISA STATUS WHICH WILL JEOPARDIZE YOUR ABILITY
TO REMAIN IN THE U.S.
Students who are enrolled in academic programs with sub-terms:
* Students may combine all their courses in sub-term 1 and
sub-term 2 within the spring semester to meet the full course of study
requirement
* DO NOT drop any courses during either sub-term that will place
you below a full course of study requirement for the spring semester
You may contact the ISSO with any questions or concerns.
