International students are not required to enroll in courses during the
summer semester unless the summer semester is the student's first
semester at A&M-Commerce. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
(USCIS) considers the summer semester the vacation time for
international students. International students may:
* Remain in the U.S. without enrolling in courses
* Travel outside the U.S.
* Enroll in courses at A&M-Commerce (there are no restrictions as
far as number of hours or online/face to face courses during the summer)
* Enroll in courses at another school (please contact the ISSO
and the other school's international office to confirm the requirements)
International students CANNOT be employed off-campus during the summer
without first receiving permission from the ISSO and/or USCIS. To
confirm if you are allowed to work off-campus please view the last page
of your I-20 for employment authorization. If this page is blank or you
do not have a valid Employment Authorization Card (EAD) then you are not
authorized to work off-campus.
If you are traveling within the U.S. during the summer it is strongly
recommended that you keep your immigration documents (visa, passport,
I-94, and I-20) with you at all times or easily accessible (in your
car).
