[Intl-stu] New majors added for OPT Extension

The ISSO just received an updated list on Thursday, May 12 for the academic STEM majors that are eligible for the 17-month OPT Extension.  Please read over the list below as there are a few SIGNIFICANT additions.  The ISSO was planning to announce a NEW PROCESS FOR APPLYING for the 17-month OPT Extension and please see below for more information.  AN ADDITIONAL EMAIL WITH INFORMATION WILL BE SENT THROUGH THE OPT STUDENT LIST SERVE:

·        Management Science

·        Botany

·        Zoology

·        Geology

·        Computer Information Systems

·        Data Processing

·        Information Systems 

·        Engineering

·        Industrial Engineering

·        Architectural Engineering Technology

·        Industrial Technology/Technology Management

·        Construction/Building Technology

·        Biology

·        Mathematics

·        Biological and Physical Sciences

·        Chemistry

·        Geology

·        Physics

·        Chemical and Atomic/Molecular Physics

·        Business Statistics

·        Agronomy and Crop Science

 

The ISSO had been planning in June to change the application process for the 17-month OPT Extension and in light of these new Extension eligible majors we just became aware of we are going to make the changes effective immediately.  AN ADDITIONAL EMAIL WITH MORE INFORMATION WILL BE SENT THROUGH THE OPT STUDENT LIST SERVE.  

The 12-month OPT application process WILL NOT CHANGE.  We will update our website as soon as possible with the new application process for the 17-month OPT Extension.      

Students may now mail their application packet to the ISSO for processing and we will mail the packet back to you (at your expense).  A follow-up email with more information and the steps for the new process will be sent through the OPT Student list serve.  PLEASE READ OVER THOROUGHLY.  Failure to follow instructions will delay your application.  Please contact the ISSO with any questions or concerns.
