International Students

Tue Nov 2 14:56:17 CDT 2010
Starting this spring 2011 semester, all F-1 and J-1 international
students will be automatically enrolled in the A&M System health
insurance AIP plan. For more information please visit
www.tamuinsurance.com and select Texas A&M University-Commerce and A&M
Basic 50k International Insurance.
The only exceptions to the mandatory enrollment are students with
graduate assistantship insurance, government scholarships that include
insurance (Canada, Saudi Arabia), and students with spouses working in
the U.S. who are covered by their spouses insurance as long as it meets
our minimum coverage requirements. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO PROVIDE
PROOF THAT YOU MEET ONE OF THE ABOVE EXCEPTIONS!
Students who are awarded a graduate assistantship and purchase the GA
insurance must provide proof of the GA position (letter from department)
and proof of the insurance coverage from Pat Kropp in the Human Resource
office on the first floor of the McDowell Administration building (BA).
If you are awarded a GA for the first time in the spring 2011 semester
and sign up for the GA insurance there is a 90 day waiting period before
the insurance is effective. You will still be required to pay the full
$274 insurance premium at the beginning of the semester and you will be
refunded the difference once your GA insurance is effective.
The $274 insurance premium will be charged to your student account as a
separate charge and is not included with your regular tuition and fees.
This $274 premium MUST be paid by the 20th day of class in the spring
semester or your classes will be dropped. When you make a payment for
your tuition and fees please contact the Bursar's office at 903-886-5050
(5051) to have your payment applied to the insurance.
Payments made at the beginning of the semester WILL NOT be automatically
applied to the insurance premium so you will need to ensure your payment
is applied to the insurance charge by the 20th day of class.
