[Intl-stu] Review process of insurance

International Students intl-stu at TAMU-Commerce.edu

We are still in the process or receiving proof of insurance and lifting
holds but I wanted to make a few comments on the process this semester.

*	I wanted to apologize to those of you who provided your
insurance in a timely manner or to the proper email,
intl_stu at tamu-commerce.edu <mailto:intl_stu at tamu-commerce.edu> , as
instructed, but did not have your hold lifted in a timely manner.
Brenda was out for of the office and I was preparing to move our office
along with fulfilling other responsibilities. In the future, I would
strongly recommend always submitting your insurance to the
intl_stu at tamu-commerce.edu <mailto:intl_stu at tamu-commerce.edu> email as
opposed to bringing your insurance to the office or emailing your
insurance to Brenda or myself. We are constantly reviewing our process
and procedures to see how we may better serve our international students
and scholars.

*	We had a larger than usually number of students email to say
they had submitted insurance for a year or longer and why was the hold
still there? As you are aware, proof of insurance must be submitted
every semester and we only lift the hold for a semester at a time. We
realize that some of you may have a government scholarship that covers
your insurance or you may purchase insurance for longer than one
semester. We recommend you contact us via email prior to early
registration each semester to remind us or provide a copy of your
current insurance. Insurance can be submitted up to a week before class
registration for each semester so I strongly urge you not to wait until
the last minute.

*	We began sending emails out a week in advanced of the opening of
registration so you could purchase your insurance in a timely manner and
we also worked to make you aware of our office move. TOO MANY students
waited to the last minute and brought their insurance in with the
expectation that it would be lifted immediately. As stated on the
website, please allow at least one business day for the hold to be
lifted but in most cases the hold will be lifted by the end of the day
the insurance is provided. You are notified by email each and every
semester of the process so please do not wait until the last minute to
submit your insurance in the international office. We appreciate your
cooperation.
