Subject: Survey
Hello,
My name is Stacy Thrush, and I am writing my Honor's
Thesis on the intercultural communication on college
campuses. As part of my research, I am asking International
students on the Texas A&M University-Commerce campus to
complete the following survey about their experiences with
language on campus.
Your participation in this survey is completely voluntary,
and should you wish to discontinue participation, you may do
so at any time without any negative consequences. If you
wish to participate, please answer the following five
questions as thoroughly as possible.
1) Have you experienced any challenges in your academic
pursuit due to the use of slang words or phrases by faculty,
staff, or your peers?
2) What are some specific words and or phrases that have
confused you?
3) To what extent has this language barrier been a problem
for you?
4) Would a brochure with slang words and phrases-and their
definitions-be helpful to you?
5) Do you have any further comments regarding the use of
slang words or phrases in relation to your education at
Texas A&M University-Commerce?
Thank you for participating in this survey. The goal of
this survey is to determine what, if any, slang words and
phrases have been problematic for international students. As
a result of these surveys, a brochure will be produced and
distributed to international students at Texas A&M
University-Commerce.
If you would like to receive a copy of the completed
brochure, please contact Stacy Thrush at the following
e-mail address (sthrush at leo.tamu-commerce.edu) and a copy
will be sent to you when they are ready. In addition, if
you have any other questions please feel free to use the
email address above.
Once again, thank you for your time and effort.
