Subject: Very important information regarding scholarships and housing
for the summer and fall.
It is my understanding that there has been some incorrect information
circulating among international students regarding scholarships and
housing. I wanted to clarify some of the information for our students.
Scholarship Information:
I have been informed by the scholarship office, that a graduate student
who has been awarded a housing scholarship will receive the scholarship
for 4 semesters (fall, spring, fall, spring). An undergraduate student
will receive the scholarship for 8 semesters. Students who have
received the housing scholarship this year, and not exceeded the 4 (or
8) semester rule, will not need to reapply for next year as they will
automatically receive the housing scholarship. If a student has not
received a housing scholarship they may apply for the scholarship before
the deadline posted on the scholarship website of May 1, 2008.
The scholarship office has also informed us that students who are
awarded a $1000 competitive scholarship are eligible to receive the
non-resident tuition waiver for the whole academic year (fall/ spring/
summer). Scholarships are not awarded for the summer, but students will
still be eligible for the waiver during the summer semester and if they
have a housing scholarship they will not have to live on-campus for the
summer. The student can take as many hours as they would like, and the
courses may be online. For more information on how to apply please go
to the following link.

If a student is in their last semester they may only take the number of
courses needed to graduate, and they will be eligible for the housing
scholarship as long as they have not used the 4 (or 8) semester limit.
However, the student will need to inform the ISSO that it is their last
semester and the student will need to apply for graduation as soon as
possible so that the scholarship office will know it is your last
semester.
Housing Information:
Residence life has informed us that students who live in the residence
halls during the Spring semester and do not live in the residence halls
for the summer will have to reapply for housing for the Fall 2008
semester. This applies to students with or without the housing
scholarship. If you have not applied for housing for the fall and you
will not live in the residence halls this summer or will return to your
home country, you will need to go to the Residence Life office as soon
as possible to apply for Fall 2008 housing. If you do not apply in a
timely manner there is no guarantee you will be assigned a residence
hall with cooking facilities.
If a student is delayed in returning to campus for the opening of the
residence halls, you should notify the Residence Life in advance stating
the date of arrival so that their accommodations are not given to
another student. A student that is not checked into their room by the
second class day of school is considered a 'No Show" and their room is
considered free and will be reassigned to someone else. Residence Life
is willing to work with students but they will need you to contact them
to make arrangements. For more information go to the following link:
