Please read the requirements below and see that you met ALL requirements and
are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

If you met ALL requirements and want to apply for this scholarship, make an
appointment to see Noi Prapan in the International Student Services office
for an application and details.

An application will not be given to students who do not meet ALL
requirements and are not eligible.

NOTE: The deadline to receive the application is 5pm, Thursday, February 15,
2007.

Good Neighbor Scholarship

 

What Is It?

Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board offers one year of an exemption of
tuition to selected citizens from nations in the Western hemisphere.  

A total of 235 scholarships are awarded each year throughout Texas. 

 

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

You must meet all of the academic and residence requirements.

Academic

*  You are currently in lawful  F-1 or J-1 status studying in Texas

*  You obtained full admission to TAMU-Commerce 

   (not probationary admission)

*  You have completed at least one semester at TAMU-Commerce

*  You will be enrolled full time at TAMU-Commerce for at least 

   one more academic year 

   (Fall, Spring, and Summer)

*  You are in good academic standing (not on probation or suspension)

Residency

*  You were born in an eligible country (see list of eligible countries)

*  You were a resident of an eligible country at least 5 years prior to
coming to the US as a student

*  You are currently living in Texas

*  You have not applied to be a US Permanent Resident

*  You do not have dual US citizenship

*  You plan to return to your home country upon completion of your degree
and/or OPT

How Do I Apply?

1.  Check that you meet all the eligibility requirements.

2.  If you are eligible, make an appointment to see the Advisor in the
International Student Office for an application. 

3. Complete the application and essay.

4.  Submit the completed application to the Advisor in the International
Student Office on or before Thursday, February 15, 2007

 

Then What Happens?

Your international advisor will screen all the applications and forward the
names of eligible students to The Texas Coordinating Board in Austin, Texas.


 

The Board will review the lists submitted by advisors throughout Texas and
will assign 235 scholarship awards. 

 

The Board will notify advisors of the names of the recipients and the
universities. Recipients of the scholarship will be notified by their
advisors.

 

When Will I Know?

Scholarships awards will be announced sometime in May 2007. 

 

Which Semesters Will Be Affected?

The scholarship will provide free tuition for the following semesters: 

            Fall 2007 

            Spring 2008 

            Summer I & II 2008

 

Important Note: The scholarship can be applied to tuition only. Scholarship
recipients must pay school fees and living expenses, such as insurance and
housing, for all semesters.
