Subject: Welcome to Spring 2007

Spring 2007 semester has already begun. Welcome new students and welcome
back returning students. I wish ALL of you a good start and a successful
semester.

Please read this important information and take action on the items that
apply to you and your situation.

  1. To maintain your legal F-1 status, it is the responsibility of ALL
international students to :

     * Register and maintain your full time course load (at least 9 hours
for grad and 12
        hours for undergrad) throughout the semester. Only ONE (3credit
hours) Internet
        course can be used to fulfill your full time course load, the rest
must be regular
        classroom base courses. Contact the International Student Adviser
(ISA) if you have
        questions.

     * Report your new address directly to the International Student Office
(ISO) within 10
       days of the change. You can submit your change of address online

<http://www.tamu-commerce.edu/international/Fall_2004/Forms/request_form.asp
>
http://www.tamu-commerce.edu/international/Fall_2004/Forms/request_form.asp

      * Remember to regularly log on to the International Student Website
and read
         important immigration information for F-1 students.
         http://www7.tamu-commerce.edu/international/
<http://www7.tamu-commerce.edu/international/>
         contact the ISA for any questions.

     * Activate your Leo-mail https://leo.tamu-commerce.edu/login.aspx
<https://leo.tamu-commerce.edu/login.aspx>
        and check it daily for important messages and announcement sent from
the
        university and the ISO.

      * Check the expiration date of your I-20 (page 1, # 5) and contact the
ISA to extend
         your I-20 within 30 days before the expiration date. A new bank
statement and a
         copy of your degree plan are required when extension is requested.

    2. For NEW students who enrolled at TAMU-Commerce for the first time
this
        semester, you can log on to the UNIVERSITY CALENDAR

http://www.tamu-commerce.edu/schedule/Schedule_of_Classes_info.asp?ID=2
<http://www.tamu-commerce.edu/schedule/Schedule_of_Classes_info.asp?ID=2>
        and follow the deadline for registration and payment.

    3. For students who have changed major, admitted to a second degree, or
changed
       degree level:
       You must contact the ISA and request for a new I-20 with a new major
or degree.
       You must bring your current I-20 with you when you make a request in
writing.

    4. For students who are 20 hr GA/TA or are enrolled in your last
semester and
        registered for less than required course load this semester (less
than 9 hours for grad
       and 12 hours for undergrad):
       You must report your reason for taking less than your required hours
to the ISA
       before the 12th class day to prevent being reported in SEVIS as
out-of-status.
       You can report online at

http://www.tamu-commerce.edu/international/Fall_2004/Forms/report_less_form.

         Spring 2007:
         If you plan to apply for CPT or OPT, you must make an appointment
with the ISA and come in person with
        completed CPT or OPT package. Information and application for CPT or
