SUBJECT: I-20 extension
As a full time F-1 international student, you are required by the F-1
regulations to have an I-20 with a valid date.
It is each student's responsibility to know your I-20 expiration date and
make sure that you request to extend your I-20 within 30 days before it
expires. The expiration date of your I-20 can be found on item #5, page 1 of
your I-20.
An I-20 cannot be extended after the expiration date.
Students whose I-20 will expire on May 31, 2007 but will not be able to
complete your degree in May 2007 must make an appointment to extend your
I-20 with me between May 1 to May 29. Call the ISSO early to request for
your appointment for I-20 extension.
To extend your I-20, you will need to bring your degree plan showing the
number of courses left to take and a current sponsor/bank statement showing
the amount of at least $15500 for two semesters or $8000 for one semester.
On the day of your appointment, you will also have to bring your expiring
I-20, passport, visa and I-94 with you.
Please note that I-20 extension is required for only full time students who
have not completed the degree and will need more time to complete the
degree; it is not required for students who had applied for OPT or are
already on OPT.
If you have questions regarding I-20 extension, feel free to contact me.
