SUBJECT: Departing U.S. with EAD for OPT and no job is risky

On January 21, SEVIS sent a message to all DSOs to remind F-1 students on
OPT who have this question:

15.2.O. Can I re-enter the US if I left while on OPT?

If your OPT has been approved and you depart the US before
you get a job, your OPT ends and you cannot re-enter.

If you have a job, you may travel and re-enter to resume work at the same
job. You must have proof of employment from your employer to show at the
port of entry.
