[GradFacultyStaff] Dissertation & Thesis Formatting Requirements

[Ashanka Kumari]

Hello Graduate Faculty & Students:

I hope this message finds you well. The Graduate School and Thesis and Dissertation Services (TDS) would like to clarify appropriate use of Google Docs for theses and dissertation. Only documents in Word should be used for formatting theses and dissertations (unless the approved LaTeX template is being used). Please note the following:

  * Students should not use Google Docs when formatting their theses or dissertations.
  * Faculty should not use Google Docs for format review of student documents.

While Google Docs is a convenient tool for drafting and collaboration, it often introduces formatting inconsistencies when files are exported or shared, which can affect readability and evaluation. This can also happen when using SharePoint, so be aware if there are formatting issues when sharing documents with students. You are welcome to use these tools while drafting and offering feedback; however, submissions to the Graduate School must be .docx files formatted in Word.

The university provides faculty and students complimentary access to Microsoft Word through your university credentials. Directions for students to download Microsoft Office 365 can be found here:https://inside.tamuc.edu/facultystaffservices/academictechnology/student-resources.aspx

If you have any questions or need assistance with formatting, please feel free to contact TDS at etamu.edu<mailto:TDS at etamu.edu>

Thank you for your cooperation,
--
