[GradFacultyStaff] Changes To Graduate Academic Probation, Retention and Suspension Procedure

Revisions to University Procedure 1399.99.R0.39 Graduate Academic Probation, Retention, and Suspension<https://inside.tamuc.edu/aboutus/policiesProceduresStandardsStatements/rulesProcedures/13students/graduate/13.99.99.R0.39.pdf> become effective when end of term processes take place at the end of the summer 2022 terms. Following are some highlights of the procedure revisions.

Master's:

*       Students placed on suspension will have the option of a one-time reinstatement and approval to take courses during the suspension period.

*       Students placed on academic suspension for a second time will be required to sit out their suspension period before requesting reinstatement.

*       Students placed on academic suspension for a third time will be dismissed from their current program.

*       The suspension period for students with conditional or provisional admission who fail to achieve a 3.0 by the completion of 12 hours has been changed from three years to one year.

*       Students that were previously suspended, returned to good standing and fail to maintain a 3.0 overall graduate GPA in a subsequent semester will be placed on academic suspension for two years.

Doctoral:

*       Doctoral students placed on academic suspension for two-semesters (Low GPA) may appeal for reinstatement at the end of the two-semester suspension period.

*       A second suspension of a doctoral student will result in dismissal from the program.

*       A doctoral student receiving a third grade below B in their doctoral program will be dismissed from the program.
