[GradFacultyStaff] 518/718 Email - Thesis and Dissertation Information

Graduate Faculty,

Hello!  My name is Karin Thomas and I am the Thesis and Dissertation Specialist for the Graduate School/Thesis and Dissertation Services (TDS).  The Graduate School recently sent the following information to students enrolled in a 518 or 718 course.

Submissions must be sent electronically (via email) by the student to TDS at TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>. If you serve as the chair on a student's thesis or dissertation advisory committee, please make sure student submissions are complete. TDS will not review a proposal submission or final document submission unless it includes all required documents and forms with all required signatures; this includes the IRB, IACUC, or IBC approval letters, as applicable.  Approvals for proposals and dissertations submitted after the deadline will be processed for the following semester. All communication regarding the thesis and dissertation process and reviews will be sent to the student's LeoMail with a copy to the student's advisor.

Please note, the research committee approval letter (e.g. IRB, IACUC, etc. approval letter), if applicable, is not the same as Graduate School approval.  Graduate School/TDS approval of the proposal document is not required for a student to begin data collection, only the research committee approval, as required.

Also, those with thesis students, keep in mind that thesis students must complete at least 6 hours of 518 to fulfill the thesis requirements of the degree.  They also must be enrolled in a 518 course in the semester they submit their final thesis.

Finally, please continue to be aware that, for doctoral students, grades of U impact academic standing, including U's earned in 718.

The following deadlines apply to students graduating either Fall 2021 or Spring 2022:

Fall 2021:
Last day to defend final dissertation*,**:  Friday, October 22nd
Last day to submit final thesis or dissertation to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>): Friday, November 5th
Last day to submit thesis/dissertation proposals to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>) for fall 2021 approval: Monday, November 29th (due to Thanksgiving holiday)

Spring 2022:
Last day to defend final dissertation*,**:  Friday, March 25th
Last day to submit final thesis or dissertation to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>): Friday, April 1st
Last day to submit thesis/dissertation proposals to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>) for spring 2021 approval: Friday, April 22nd

* Schedule Forms<http://www.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/graduateForms.aspx> for dissertation defenses (proposal and final) are due the 20th of the month prior to the defense date (if the 20th of the month falls on a weekend or university holiday, submit the form on the working day prior to the deadline).
** Thesis students must submit the Notification Form for the Final Thesis Defense<http://www.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/documents/thesis--dissertation-services/Notification%20form%20for%20Thesis%20Defense1.pdf> no less than 7 days prior to the date of defense.

Early TDS submissions are encouraged. Approvals for submissions received past the deadline will be processed for review and approval for the following semester.
