Shannon,

I haven't responded because in part, I didn't know what to say. :-(

I want you to follow your heart and be successful in everything you do! I'm really excited about your new projects.

But, we will miss your energy, your leadership, and your enthusiasm greatly. I'm sad for us, but happy for you.

We will miss you and we are all greatly indebted to you for your amazing contributions. You have done such amazing work for CBW and you really, really energized us and led us to where we are today. How can we say thank you?

Fondly,

Liz

Shannon, your leadership and energy and smarts have brought CBW far forward. All of us who've been on Exec or who've been co-chairs know that it takes hard work to make progress; basic writing, as a field, combines a mission of the highest academic importance with a set of constituencies-its students and frequently its teachers-who are too often an academic underclass. The work you have done has made real change, contributing to real progress in our efforts toward a more comprehensive intersection of literacy, respect, and power in our communities. (The visibility of Basic Writing in the CCCC2012 program and CCCC2013 cfp are just a couple of examples.) Thanks!

Collegially,

Bill

Friends--

It is with both deep regret and pride that I announce my intention to step down from the CBW Executive Board, a position I have held since 2006 (Co-Chair 2008-2011). I regret leaving but the CBW I must leave has me bursting with pride.

Serving this organization these last few years has one of the highlights of my professional life. It was an honor to be asked to join and has been an inspiration to watch it grow. Working alongside each of you these last few years has been some of the most rewarding work I've ever done.

Last year's workshop, the mission statement that developed from it, and the BW resolution . . . well, I can't imagine a more exciting way to end my final year as CBW Co-Chair. The Featured Panel that followed was absolutely unexpected. The revival of the BW cluster beyond amazing.

And just when I thought it couldn't get more exciting, I read the CFP for CCCC 2013: http://www.ncte.org/library/NCTEFiles/Groups/CCCC/Convention/2013/4C_2013CP_120121.pdf

My friends, you won't believe this: BASIC WRITING IS ALL OVER THIS! By NAME!

I never thought I'd see it. And now I have.

The future looks bright for BW, brighter than I ever expected. It has been an honor to serve alongside each and every one of you. It will be an honor to watch what happens next for this vital organization. As my work has taken turn into other areas in recent years and I find my CCCC dance card increasingly crowded by other obligations (CCCC Undergraduate Research Committee, Writing Democracy workshop, etc), it makes good sense for me to step aside and offer up my chair to some of the amazing group of nominees coming forward through the various channels you've prepared for them. I'm humbled. I'm honored. I'm smitten.

Thanks to all of you for everything you've done, and continue to do, for basic writing and students called basic writers.

In admiration,
Shannon
